This involves assessing students' abilities, setting realistic learning goals, and adapting teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles. Special Needs Teachers work closely with other educators, parents, and specialists to ensure that each child receives a comprehensive education that promotes their academic, social, and emotional development.

In addition to academic instruction, Special Needs Teachers are responsible for fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. They use specialised techniques and tools to help students develop essential life skills, such as communication, social interaction, and self-regulation. Managing behaviour and implementing strategies to address specific behavioural challenges are also key aspects of the role. These teachers must be patient, compassionate, and skilled at differentiating instruction to meet the varied needs of their students.

Collaboration and communication are vital responsibilities for Special Needs Teachers. They regularly liaise with parents, carers, and multidisciplinary teams, including speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists, to monitor student progress and make necessary adjustments to their IEPs. The typical requirements for a Special Educational Needs Teacher may include:

  1. Educational Qualification:

    • A bachelor’s degree in education, special education, or a related field.

    • A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or equivalent teaching qualification.

    • Specialised training or certification in SEN, such as a Master’s degree in Special Education or a SEN-specific qualification. or Education, may be preferred for senior positions.

  2. Experience:

    • Experience working in a classroom setting, ideally with some experience in supporting students with special educational needs.

    • Previous roles in SEN environments, such as teaching assistant or SEN support roles, are often beneficial..

  3. Knowledge of SEN Strategies:

    • Understanding of various learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and behavioural challenges.

    • Familiarity with Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and other SEN documentation.

  4. Strong Communication Skills:

    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

    • Experience in working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists and psychologists.

  5. Adaptability and Patience:

    • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of SEN students.

    • Patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting students' individual growth.

  6. Background Checks:

    • Successful completion of a police check or equivalent background check, as required by local regulations.

  7. Continuous Professional Development (CPD):

    • Willingness to engage in ongoing training and development related to SEN teaching practices and methodologies.

Salary Package & Benefits

A typical salary package for a Special Education Needs (SEN) Teacher:
 

  1. Monthly Salary: Typically ranges from 9,000 AED to 16,000 AED TAX FREE ($2,500 to $5,000 USD), depending on the country, type of school (e.g., private, international), and the teacher’s experience and qualifications.

  2. Housing/Housing Allowance: Often provided, ranging from $500 to $1,500 USD per month. Some schools offer fully furnished accommodation as part of the package.

  3. Visa: Working visa and residency visa provided for the teacher,  Sometimes this is extended for the spouse and children.

  4. Transportation Allowance: Monthly transportation allowances or school-provided transport, typically between $200 and $500 USD per month.

  5. Health Insurance: Comprehensive health insurance coverage, including medical, dental, and vision care, often extended to immediate family members.

  6. Relocation Allowance: A one-time relocation allowance may be offered to cover the cost of moving or a flight  to the Middle East.

  7. Annual Leave: Paid annual leave of approximately 30 days, in addition to national and religious holidays observed in the region.

  8. Airfare: Annual round-trip airfare to the teacher’s home country, often including coverage for family members, as part of the relocation benefits.

  9. End-of-Service Gratuity: A lump sum payment at the end of the contract term, calculated based on the length of service, in accordance with local labour laws.

  10. Professional Development: Funding and opportunities for attending workshops, conferences, and other professional development activities relevant to maths education.

  11. Paid Holidays: Generous paid holidays, including national holidays, winter break, and summer vacation

  12. Contract Duration: Contracts generally,  span 1-2 years, with potential for renewal based on performance and mutual agreement.

  13. Work Hours: Standard school hours 8am to 3pm, with additional time expected for lesson planning, grading, and extracurricular involvement.
